.... The 2011 Hungerford & District Community Arts Festival is now over, leaving us with some great memories - Michael Lunts’s light-hearted look at the English, Shadwell Opera’s vivid performance of Albert Herring, Rebecca Vaughan’s passionate portrayal of Queen Elizabeth 1, Andrew Motion’s poignant poems on the theme of war, Newbury Symphony Orchestra and the Enborne Consort’s combined concert for strings and voices, among so many others. We have savoured Mozart’s favourite wine while listening to his piano sonatas, danced ourselves breathless to King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, learnt how to dress for less at the Eco-Chic Fashion Show, discovered amazing things we never knew about bees, picked up useful hints about greener gardening, and enjoyed the talents of local adults and youngsters on stage as much as the best of professional theatre and music. We have appreciated films and literary evenings, visited exhibitions and gardens, acquired new skills in workshops, and celebrated our beautiful countryside on river, marsh, meadowland and farm walks. All in all, it has been a great Festival, made possible through the generosity of our many local sponsors to whom we are immensely grateful. Thank you to all who supported events, and all who helped organise and run them. We hope you enjoyed the programme and look forward to seeing you all again next year! Beryl Fowler , Chairman

BACKGROUND TO THE FESTIVAL Hungerford & District Community Arts Festival (popularly known as HADCAF) takes place annually in July and aims to encourage, promote and celebrate the talent, expertise and skills that abound within our community. In addition to offering a platform to local individuals, societies and organisations, the Festival brings to the community performances of music and theatre that would not otherwise be seen locally. The Festival seeks to include something for all ages, tastes and interests, and the programme encompasses a wide range of arts- and leisure-related events and attractions: the performing arts, visual arts, music of all kinds, exhibitions, talks, craft and dance workshops, local history, antiques, horticulture, conservation and wildlife, guided walks, plus gardens and artists' studios to visit. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Thanks to Hungerford Rugby Club for hosting planning meetings, The Bear Hotel for exhibition space, Hungerford Camera Club and Chilton Foliat Village Hall for loan of display boards, and to all who have contributed time and effort to HADCAF.
